“And give a warm welcome to Rachel Berry!”
Quinn had practically bribed her way through Times Square, stood wearing a jacket that barely kept her warm and a hat that hadn’t done anything to make her feel better waiting until Rachel took to the stage. There had been posters all around the city for a week before she was even supposed to take to the stage, and each time she’d read Rachel’s name she’d not known whether to turn and run back home or find her right then, right there. Rachel had always had this thing about grand, romantic gestures, so she’d held herself back and waited until New Year’s Eve. She was running late; Rachel had only just pulled up in her car ten minutes before, and she’d spent most of her time talking to the woman Quinn assumed was her manager. It wasn’t until seconds before she was due on stage she’d run toward the stairs leading to the stage, and Quinn had taken a deep breath, (thought about every time Rachel had been there for her when she’d needed her), and stepped forward.
“Hi,” she said, and Rachel turned around. She moved closer, and Rachel didn’t take her eyes off Quinn’s the whole time. “Hey, Rachel,” she said, clearing her throat.
“Quinn,” Rachel said. The way the lights from the stage hit her hair made it look almost pink, and Quinn smiled at her. “What are you doing here?”
“I thought I’d see you perform, as I’m in New York for a while,” she said. “Good luck, Rachel.”
“Can we welcome Rachel Berry to the stage please!”
Rachel took another step, and turned back to face Quinn. “Don’t- don’t go anywhere,” she said. “I’ll be right back.”
“I’ll be watching,” Quinn said, and Rachel smiled, turned, and took to the stage.
